Atticus Internal Tournament 2006/7

This tournament took place each Monday starting at around 7.30pm. It ran from September 2006 to April 2007. Normal time controls applied i.e. 35 moves in 75mins with an additional 15 mins to complete the game or if both players agreed, shorter time controls were used. There was no entry fee and each player had a White and a Black. To ensure the smooth running of the tournament players made arrangements with opponents in plenty of time. Steve Burge emerged as the well deserved winner.

Internal club tournament rules 2006/7

1. OBSERVANCE OF LAWS. All games are played under the auspices of the MCA and shall be played in accordance with the Laws of Chess as recognised by the Federation Internationale Des Echecs (FIDE) and as modified by the English Chess Federation (ECF), excepting as otherwise laid down in these rules.

2. PLAYER ENTRIES. All entries shall be made on the competitions crosstable by either Chris Wentworth or Tom Lawton. Please provide accurate names and if ungraded, an estimate of playing strength. Entries to the tournament can be made at any time. However, in order to qualify for prizes players must complete a high percentage of games (to be determined  by Chris Wentworth).

3. GAME POINTS. A player winning a game shall score one point and in the event of a draw each player shall score ½ point.

4. ARRANGEMENT OF GAMES. The dates of games shall be arranged mutually between players who should notify the controller of the result(s).

5. HOURS OF PLAY. In the absence of any previous arrangement by the players concerned, play shall commence at 7.15 p.m. and shall conclude at 10.15 pm or as close to these times as possible. If both players are in agreement then both tournament games may be played during the same evening.

6. RATE OF PLAY. Each player shall keep a record of the moves in each game. Any player may demand that their game be played with a chess clock, in which case a proper chess clock will be provided.

The rate of play shall be :- 35 moves in 75mins with an additional 15 mins to complete the game or if both players agree, shorter time controls can be used. Ideally each player should not have less than 25 mins to complete the game. The first player whose flag falls shall lose, excepting if his opponent has insufficient material for checkmate, when the game shall be drawn. A player may also claim a draw if the position is such that no other result is reasonably possible.

7. NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS. Both players should notify Chris Wentworth and/or Tom Lawton of the result as soon as possible after the conclusion of the game. Note: Games in this tournament will not be sent for grading.

8. ADJUDICATIONS. There will be no adjudications. In keeping with MCA regulations, this was decided at the AGM in June 1998.
