The Braille Chess Association will celebrate its 75th anniversary by hosting the European Individual Chess Championship fo visually impaired players in Durham. The generous support of Durham County Council and Skipton Building Society Charitable Trust and many north east associations have made it possible.
From 14th to 23rd August the best of European blind players (current and two former world champions included) will battle with seven British entries including Chris Ross originally from Stockton-on-Tees and Les Whittle from Morpeth for the European title. Most days chess will start at 1.45 pm and on thre final day at 11 am. Monday 20th is a rest day. Anyone who wishes to visit St Aidan's College, Durham University to observe the chess will be very welcome.
We also hope the top games wil be live on the internet via www.braillechess.org.uk
